About Me

Hey there! Welcome to my site!

My name is Liying Qian. Born in Shanghai, I have a diverse educational and cultural background from China, Thailand and the United States.

A recent graduate with a dual major in economics, and business and economics journalism at the University of Missouri, I am intrigued by business journalism in many ways – the thrill of following the money, the humanity imbedded in entrepreneurship, the nuts and bolts that fluctuate the market, etc. Professionally, I am interested in reporting on stories that involve real people and using data to untangle complex economic ideas for non-experts. I also love to use my economic theory- and math-based knowledge to better my business reporting.

With a background in various daily newspapers and online publications, I intend to tell the most accurate and complete story in the manner that is the best fit. I’m a quick learner who has an inquisitive personality and becomes engrossed in whatever subject I’m pursuing.

When I am not out reporting, you may find me hanging out at a jam session, making a comedy sketch, planning my next road trip or binge watching tutorials on Lynda.com.
